forgot how to post pictures...how sad is that?
Yup, I have to have Tim give me a tutorial on how to post pictures on the blog...its been so long since I've posted pictures that I've forgotten how...wish me luck!
baby prep is underway
We were sick the first two weeks in March, all of us...poor Kate ended up with an ear infection after she got over the cold we all had. It was a really rough one the cold was awful and Kate hates anyone touching her ears at all, and getting her ears checked is horrible. At the same time, Sammie also had an ear infection...I was getting pretty good at recognizing ear infections both human and canine.
Once we were over all of that we started cleaning out the clothes the girls had outgrown and getting ready for a yard sale...it was a lot of work and pretty insane, not sure I'll be participating in that one again...it was very demanding and folks out here are way pickier about how things are done than they are in the Midwest...and they price everything higher than I expected too. I doubt I'll be able to do that much work with an infant so I'm not worried about taking that on again in the fall...
So now we've started getting things in place for the little guy to get here...I also got diagnosed with gestational diabetes again and its been a difficult adjustment. I end up having trouble keeping my blood sugar up sometimes now, especially when I'm really active.
Erin's doing great in school. Katie has gone through potty training and is doing wonderfully. Tim is picking up as much slack for me as he can, right now carrying pretty much anything heavier than the laptop upstairs can cause contractions so he's done a lot of that for me. Sammie is being Sammie...she's a great dog...
I'll try to get some photos together soon!
Busy Busy Busy!
We've been working around the house today. We had a lot of little tasks to complete that we just hadn't done yet. We even got a few things that weren't on my list done too. Tim and I inventoried the chest freezer today. We have a whiteboard in that same storage area where we can keep a list of what is there and how many of each thing there is.
Erin and Katie cleaned up their room, then they helped clean out from underneath the crib, and start to get it set up for the little guy to arrive in a few months. Its interesting to see the crib set up again.
I went to Target, picked up some things we were out of and I've done a bit of laundry and dishes. I'm trying to take it fairly easy when I can. I was also in charge of making dinner.
At the end of March, I'm going to be trying to sell some of our old baby clothes at a yard sale my Mom's Club is participating in. I'm hoping to clear out some space and earn a little money while I'm at it. It will be a lot of work between now and then, but hopefully the work will pay off.
We've got a lot of things to do before the baby arrives: get an infant car seat installed, assemble a bassinet and the bedding needed for it and the crib, get baby clothes washed and ready, decorate near the crib, and we need to get the girls their summer clothes too. Lots to do over the next couple of months.
Last week was my first ever parent teacher conference.
Erin's preschool held parent/teacher conferences last week. I'd never been to one before of course, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I don't recall my mom having to go to many, but then again I grew up in a small town where we frequently saw my teachers all over town. If I had an issue at school, Mom knew about it.
I was so surprised about everything that I learned during the conference. Erin is a pretty sweet girl, which I knew, but she is also shy and tenative too. Her teachers told me she is kind to the other kids, and plays well with them. They also said she is shy with them, but has made a great deal of progress since September when she started school. She's been recognizing her letters, all the uppercase and about 2/3 of the lowercase. She knows all her colors, though at home she confuses black and brown (her teachers said she knows the difference, so she could be following Katie's lead at home.) Squares and rectangles are easy for her to confuse as are circles and ovals. She recognizes numbers over 10, but refuses to count any higher than 10. (I found that kind of funny actually, I think she does it because she's afraid of messing it up, but I totally know where she gets it from!) They said she's ready for Kindergaten, and that we should keep working on things with her, but that is doing quite well. I'm proud of her, and I know that its her doing the bulk of the work. Tim and I just encourage her and try to help when she needs it. We don't do drills with her really, just have things available and do our best to answer her questions, even if sometimes that question is one we don't know the answer to...like "What sound does a giraffe make?"
Things are pretty good here, Katie is showing an intrest in Potty training...FINALLY! She's 3 and a half, and hasn't had much interest in it at all. She's also taking an interest in writing her letters and her name. I can't tell you how much she benefits from having an older sister! Both of the girls are looking forward to having a little brother. They got to hear his heart beat for the first itme last week at a doctor's appointment.
Well, its time to get back to the housework...I'm trying to get things cleaned up since I've been off track due to the exhaustion from being anemic. Wish me luck!
Howdy Howdy!
Things here are always busy, but throw in an anemic pregnant lady and things are not only busy but just plain difficult! Yup, I have been told that I am anemic, which is surprising to me. We eat a lot of red meat (A LOT!) Steak is one of my favorite meals. We don't really do the whole ground chicken or turkey thing (I hate turkey, always have and I'm pretty sure I always will). Friday I take my 3 hour glucose test, pretty sure that next week they'll tell me I'm gestational diabetic again. I'm putting Easter Candy in the freezer so that I can have some of my favorites after the little guy arrives.
Since my last post (admittedly a dreadfully long time ago, sorry bout that), we have had the "big" ultrasound, we'll have another one in April sometime to check growth, and we learned that we are indeed having a little boy this time. Amazing isn't it, 2 girls and now Tim is going to have a little boy!
We got out deep freezer too, and its great. The girls think its awesome because they can have ice and popsicles! We've bought a few convience items, frozen pizza and waffles and such but mostly I'm trying to come up with a good plan to fill it with yummy, homemade foods to have after this little guy makes his big arrival. By my count I have about 13 weeks until my due date, but I'm not sure I'll keep him in there that long. Both girls have been early, and with gestational diabetes they don't like you to go past your due date anyway.
My Mom and Tim's mom would both like to come out to help when he arrives, I'm not sure what is going to happen...I'm in a bit of a wait and see state of mind at this point.
Have a good one everyone!
